Starting Salary: £32,916 – £51,048 pa – Hertfordshire locally agreed Teachers minimum and upper pay range (non fringe) + SEN allowance
Hours: 32.5 / 1.0 FTE
Location: Stevenage – covering North Herts, Stevenage and East Herts – with travel countywide

Directorate: Children’s Services

Would you like an opportunity to support Hertfordshire County Council to deliver better outcomes for children unable to attend school for medical reasons?

The ESMA Teaching Service offers education to students in a variety of formats, including small group teaching, online and face-to-face, so we are looking for an outstanding teacher to deliver quality teaching in person and virtually.

We are looking for an inspirational Maths teacher to join the Education Support for Medical Absence (ESMA) Teaching Service, who can deliver outstanding teaching to some of the County’s most vulnerable students. The role involves a combination of face-to-face and online teaching as well as continued pastoral support for a group of students.

We are looking for an excellent communicator who also believes in the importance of pastoral care and support.

The current timetable (subject to change) for ESMA teachers is structured with teaching from 9.00am – 11.00am, followed by a break, and then a second teaching slot from 11.30am – 1.30pm. This could include a mixture of face-to-face and online teaching, or all face-to-face or all online.

When not delivering lessons, teachers work on their pastoral responsibilities, which include holding Planning and Review reintegration meetings with families, students, schools, and health professionals, with their allocated students.

The purpose of these regular meetings is to ensure that the student has the appropriate access to education, considering their medical need, and has a plan to reintegrate into school.

Essential:

  • Educated to degree level and hold Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Minimum five years relevant and successful teaching experience.
  • Recent classroom experience and practice knowledge for the subject specialism (Maths).
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of relevant high-quality teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice in relation to meeting the needs of children with health and SEND.
  • Ability to model excellent practice and lead by example.
  • Be able to evaluate practice and evidence the impact of interventions.
  • Commitment to promoting equal opportunities and diversity.
  • Excellent communication and technology (ICT) skills.
  • Ability to prioritise work within a multi-professional team reflecting service priorities.
  • Detailed knowledge of exam board specifications and exam requirements
  • Ability and willingness to contribute to curriculum planning and shared resources.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and regular access to a vehicle, due to travel requirements.

Desirable:

  • An understanding of working with children with medical needs (physical and mental).

This is a fantastic opportunity for an outstanding teacher of Maths to join a team dedicated to providing the best possible outcomes for students who are too ill to attend school.

If you enjoy small-group teaching, both online and in person, and have a genuine passion for making a difference to the lives of students and their families, then this could be the role for you.
