Cambridgeshire County Council

(Annual) Soulbury Scale A Points A3-A8 plus SPA Points

05/05/2026

Are you looking to work in a well-regarded, high performing and supportive team of Educational Psychologists (EPs)?

We are looking for enthusiastic, knowledgeable and dynamic EPs to join our growing Service in Cambridgeshire. You will be part of one of our teams based across the County and will work closely with a range of specialists, including Specialist Teachers and Specialist SEND Practitioners.

If you’d like to have an informal discussion before applying, please contact our Senior EP Katy Roe: Katy.roe@cambridgeshire.gov.uk.

Appointment to this post will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure obtained through the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

What will you be doing?

As a qualified EP, you will be applying a range of psychological theories and tools to your work with schools and other settings, working closely with families, colleagues from other teams and disciplines to provide a holistic and co-ordinated response to need.

Our work reflects our strong beliefs and commitment to evidence-based practice, flexibility and innovation, systemic and solution-focussed work, social justice and inclusion, the active involvement of children and their families, and collaborative work with schools and other partners.

Why work for Cambridgeshire?

  • We’re a warm, supportive, passionate team that lift each other up. We care about wellbeing of our colleagues and promote positive work life balance and family friendly working policies while maintaining high level of professionalism.
  • We respect professional autonomy and encourage a flexible approach to working with schools and communities, supporting colleagues to carry out community-based work and joint projects with other services, including Health.
  • We have maintained a free to schools patch-based service, that enables us to work creatively, build up strong relationships with our schools and offer early intervention.
  • We capitalise on our location and collaborate with Doctorate courses and with researchers in the University of Cambridge, present on PGCE courses, and support our EPs to publish and present their research. Amongst other things, we have developed a leading approach to supporting literacy difficulties / dyslexia. We are a regional partner for Neuroinclusive Education Network (NEN, former AET) for schools and post 16 settings.
  • Alongside statutory work, we offer protected time to pursue your interests and develop areas of specialism, including, to name a few, therapeutic work (Video Interaction Guidance, VIG), supporting Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) network, Enhanced Resourced Bases (ERBs), using PATHs and MAPs to support with big transitions, and developing an multi-systemic approach to reducing Emotional and Environmental Barriers to School Attendance (EEBSA). Our team of excellent Assistant EPs supports qualified EPs in these projects and more.
  • We work closely with a range of external services, for example collaborating with Health colleagues to develop pathways of supporting young people experiencing Situational Mutism or Environmental and Emotional Barriers to School Attendance (EEBSA, formerly EBSA). We offer main grade roles of Specialist Link to promote professional development and collaboration with other services.
  • We cover HCPC fees and offer full Soulbury T&Cs.
  • We are committed to providing excellent opportunities for continuous professional development and offer high quality individual and peer supervision.

About you

You will need to have a first degree in Psychology, recognised by the BPS, a post-graduate qualification in Educational Psychology and be registered with the HCPC. You will also be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the job, a solid understanding of the EP role within our educational system and the local authority context, and the skills necessary to perform it. Applications from Year 2 and Trainee EPs as well as locum EPs who are looking to rejoin an LA team are warmly welcomed. Both full and part time hours can also be considered.

Please use the supporting statement in your application to highlight how your skills and experience match the essential criteria outlined in the attached Job Description/Person Specification.

Please note that the base for this role has been recorded as New Shire Hall in Huntingdon but you will be able to work from a number of County Council locations and travel throughout the county will form part of your role.

Our first Interview dates will be held on the 13th and 14th May 2026.

This is a rolling campaign, and we will review applications on a regular basis. Candidates will be progressed shortly after they apply, and the opportunity will be filled as soon as we identify suitable candidates. Please do not hesitate to get in touch!
