  • Suffolk County Council
  • Address: Endeavour House, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2BX – Hybrid working
  • Salary: £25,185 – £28,142 per annum (pro rata for part time)
  • Hours: 37 hours per week – flexible working options available
  • Contract: Permanent

As a modern, flexible and effective organisation, at Suffolk County Council we’re driven to make a positive difference to the environment, the communities we serve and the careers of our people. That’s why, when you join us as a Technical Support Officer, you’ll be encouraged to share your fresh thinking and empowered to explore new ideas that will shape and improve our services as well as your career.

Reimagine the possibilities.

Your role and responsibilities

Imagine a role where no two days are the same.

You’ll be the backbone of our operations, ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From uploading planning documents and keeping databases accurate, to managing financial tasks like processing payments, invoices, and tracking budgets, your attention to detail will make a real difference. You’ll be the friendly voice on the phone and the helpful reply in the inbox, providing guidance to colleagues and the public while resolving queries with confidence. One moment you might be issuing Street Works Permits and recording details on Aurora, the next organising meetings, booking rooms, and making sure everyone is prepared. You’ll contribute ideas in team discussions, help design and improve systems, and create more efficient processes for all.

As the first point of contact, you’ll offer a warm welcome and practical advice, all while collaborating with a supportive team that values your input and celebrates your successes. Every day brings opportunities to learn, grow, and make a positive impact.

You will need:

  • Level 3 qualification in an appropriate subject i.e. Business Administration or Customer Services or experience with office and financial procedures – whether you’ve worked in administration, customer service, or another role where organisation and accuracy matter.
  • confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and keeping records up to date
  • good communication skills, both written and verbal, so you can share information clearly and support colleagues and customers
  • the ability to plan and organise your own workload, taking responsibility for getting things done
  • a friendly, professional approach when dealing with queries from the public, even when situations are challenging
  • a positive attitude and a flexible, team-focused mindset- ready to help others and adapt to new tasks.

We value transferable skills – so if you’ve gained experience in other sectors, we’d love to see how your strengths could help us. If you share our commitment to making a positive impact for Suffolk, we’re excited to hear from you.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (Word). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don’t meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The Team

We support Suffolk’s growth and infrastructure by helping our transport strategy teams deliver for everyone – making a real difference to colleagues and the public every day.

Our team is motivated by pride in our work and the positive impact we have on the community, always striving to improve systems and support those around us. We’re united by Suffolk County Council’s WE ASPIRE values, creating a culture of collaboration, respect, and encouragement where everyone’s ideas are valued. You’ll find a friendly, supportive atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to share knowledge, celebrate successes, and help each other grow.

We practice hybrid working, a minimum office attendance of two days a week. This may be higher initially to aid training in the role.

Empowering Everyone

We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report.
