Team Manager – Assessment & Intervention, North Essex

Permanent, Full Time

£55,892 to £69,241 per annum

Location: Clacton on Sea

Working Style: Fixed-base worker

Closing Date: 15th April 2026

Here in Essex, we continue to raise the bar about practice and our investment in our workforce is second to none. It’s an exciting time to join us having received our 2 nd Outstanding Ofsted rating in a row.

Essex County Council understand how important flexibility and wellbeing is for our colleagues working across children’s Social Care and that we need to think differently. We have therefore developed a nine-day working fortnight for full time frontline Social Workers within Children’s services.

There are currently positions available in Tendring and Colchester

Assessment and Intervention (A&I)

These teams act as the vital front door to Children and Families Services – supporting children, young people, parents/carers and partner agencies to access the right help at the right time.

The Assessment and Intervention team carries out initial assessments and short-term intervention with families, working with children from pre-birth through to their 18th birthday. Their focus is on children in need (CIN) and their families, providing timely, purposeful support to improve outcomes.

The team also undertakes Section 47 child protection enquiries, working closely with the police and key partners to assess and respond to immediate risks to children. Where longer-term involvement is needed, cases are transferred to Family Support and Protection Teams – particularly if a child becomes subject to a child protection plan or enters the care of the local authority.

Following assessment and brief intervention, if a statutory social work service is not required, families may be stepped down to Family Solutions as part of our Early Help Offer, ensuring continued, proportionate support without ongoing statutory intervention.

The Role

This role of a Team Manager is pivotal in shaping, supporting and championing high‑quality social work practice, both within the team and across the wider service. You will work collaboratively across the quadrant and the county, partnering with colleagues, external agencies and families to ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time.

At the heart of the role is a commitment to safeguarding children from harm while promoting their safety, well‑being and long‑term outcomes. You will play a key part in ensuring practice is purposeful, proportionate and responsive to need.

You will be part of a highly supportive team where social worker well‑being is a clear priority. By fostering a positive, reflective working culture, you will help ensure families receive services at the appropriate level and that interventions are effective, timely and balanced.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in Social Work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent
  • Registration with Social Work England as registered Social Worker

Previous Experience of:

  • Delivery of services in Children’s Social Care
  • People Management
  • Resource planning and management
  • Quality assurance and customer care
  • Achieving person centred outcomes
  • Work with complex statistical, financial and performance information
  • Policy development and change management
  • Experience of working in a political environment, skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives and taking a cross organisational perspective
  • Required to work flexibly as required, including evenings and weekends if necessary.
  • You will be committed to systemic, relationship based social work, providing effective, innovative interventions and with the ability to build good partnerships, both with our external partners and within the organisation.
