Your role and responsibilities

As a Registration Officer you will work directly with customers and be responsible for the registration of births, deaths and marriages. Your responsibilities will cover all legal aspects of registration and dealing with customers on a 1-to-1 basis during times of heightened and mixed emotions.

  • Handling financial transactions and ensuring compliance with audit procedures, including the responsibility of working with secure stock.
  • Conduct and register civil ceremonies in the Register Office and at Approved Venues during office hours.

You will need:

  • to be educated to level 3 standard or have clear evidence of an equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • to thrive on accuracy and excel in fast-paced environments
  • excellent customer service and teamworking skills
  • to be able to keep calm under pressure, have a sharp eye for detail, and can confidently manage groups while maintaining a professional appearance
  • ability to navigate tricky situations and resolve conflicts.

In addition to this role, you will also have the opportunity to take on a zero-hour Weekend Ceremony contract if you choose to. This is paid at £14.82 per hour.

The additional contract would include conducting and registering civil ceremonies across the county at weekends and bank holidays. Ceremonies are held in a wide range of locations including our own local authority rooms, stately homes, golf and country clubs, barns and in other unusual locations. You would also be required to register some marriages and civil partnerships in religious buildings. The role includes meeting couples and preparing scripts and other associated paperwork relating to ceremony management.

  • The Registration Services team are spread across the whole county providing support to those registering a birth, death, notification of marriage or civil partnership
