Geospatial Data Assistant | 9958 | Temporary Contract until 31 March 2028 | 37 hours per week | £28,598 to £31,022 per annum (Scale F) | County Hall, Norwich

Are you passionate about using maps and data to support nature recovery, biodiversity and greener places? Do you enjoy turning complex information into clear, engaging insight that helps people make better decisions? An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Norfolk County Council’s Natural Norfolk team as a Geospatial Data Assistant.

About Us

Natural Norfolk sits within Norfolk County Council’s Environment Service and brings together specialists in geospatial analysis, nature conservation, historic environment and communications. The team plays a key role in supporting the Council’s response to climate change, nature recovery and environmental resilience, working closely with partners across local government, environmental organisations, communities and funders.

The team supports high-profile and wide-ranging work, from strategic policy development to on-the-ground delivery, including biodiversity, green spaces and the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Norfolk. Using a natural capital approach, the team helps link environmental data with wider priorities such as health and wellbeing, net zero carbon and sustainable economic growth.

The Role

The successful candidate will support the production, analysis and presentation of geospatial data and insight to inform a wide range of environmental projects. This includes creating maps, models and interpretation that help colleagues, partners and stakeholders understand complex information and make evidence-based decisions.

You will contribute to the development of accessible geospatial products such as web maps, StoryMaps and reports, and help communicate technical insight clearly to non-technical audiences. The role also supports collaboration across the Environment Service, including close working with teams such as the Norfolk Biodiversity Information Service and the Norfolk Historic Environment Record.

This is a varied role offering the opportunity to work on meaningful projects that contribute directly to nature recovery, biodiversity and greener places across Norfolk.

About You

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant subject such as Environmental Science or Geography, with experience using GIS software (such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online or QGIS). You will have strong data visualisation and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to a range of audiences.

A proactive approach, good organisational skills and an interest in Norfolk’s landscape and biodiversity are essential. Experience of coding (for example Python), delivering training to non-specialists, or working with environmental data standards would be advantageous but is not essential.
