Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for delivering effective highway maintenance and management? Join us in shaping the future of our highways! We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as an Area Maintenance Manager responsible for all reactive highway maintenance activities within a defined geographical area. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that the highway network is maintained to a safe standard, that faults are investigated and repaired in accordance with the County’s Highway Operational Standards and customers are proactively updated on progress throughout. You will lead a team of dedicated professionals and work closely with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality services. What will you be doing? This is an exciting opportunity to lead and manage a highways maintenance team, ensuring the effective delivery of maintenance services in a geographical area of Cambridgeshire. You will prioritise, organise and manage workloads across the team. Your role will provide strategic guidance to the team and ensure the teams working practices align with the County’s CARE values. You will be responsible for monitoring the team’s performance against defined KPIs and ensuring targets are met. These targets will include responding to customer reports, ensuring work is delivered on time. You will have responsibility for team development and ensuring your team is provided with the necessary support, training and guidance to fulfil their responsibilities. You will need to collaborate with other managers across the service to ensure a consistent professional and joined up approach is adopted. You will be the key contact for elected members responsible for ensuring they are kept informed of works in their electoral divisions. This will extend to partners in District and Parish Councils as well as the public. You will be responsible for managing a large reactive maintenance budget, working alongside our contractors to ensure we achieve best value for money. About you We are seeking a visionary leader with a deep understanding of highways maintenance and management. With a strong background in civil engineering, infrastructure, or a related discipline, you bring a wealth of experience in leading services within a large and dynamic organisation. You will be passionate about delivering high-quality, customer-focused services that make a tangible difference to communities. You will have a customer service focus as you will be a key contact for elected members and be ultimately responsible for ensuring that County, District, and Parish Councillors are kept informed of work in their electoral divisions. You will combine technical expertise with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, enabling you to inspire teams, build strong partnerships, and drive continuous improvement. You will thrive in collaborative environments, working across departments and with contractors to deliver sustainable, inclusive, and resilient infrastructure solutions.
