Apprenticeships in Residential Child Care

Why Choose an Apprenticeship in Residential Child Care?

A Residential Child Care Apprenticeship offers a nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma, equipping you with the skills and knowledge to support children and young people in care. You’ll learn about:

  • Child development and safeguarding
  • Building positive relationships and resilience
  • Health and safety, communication, and behaviour support
  • Sexual exploitation awareness and promoting positive outcomes

This qualification is a mandatory requirement under the Children’s Homes Regulations and includes optional units tailored to specific care settings.

What Does an Apprenticeship with the Eastern Region Involve?

As an apprentice, you’ll:

  • Work alongside experienced staff
  • Earn a wage and receive holiday pay
  • Gain job-specific and life skills
  • Be allocated study time (equivalent to one day per week)

You’ll complete units covering:

  • Development, safeguarding, and trauma-informed care
  • Communication, risk management, and group living
  • Health, education, and behaviour support
  • Equality, diversity, and professional development

Assessment methods include workplace observation, written assignments, and portfolio evidence. Most apprenticeships are completed within 12 months.

  • Senior Residential Child Care Worker (Level 4)
  • Deputy Manager (Level 4/5)
  • Registered Manager (Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management)

Each role builds on your practice, leadership, and understanding of child-centred care, safeguarding, and emotional support.
