We’re looking a Personal Advisor to join our Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) Team.

Working alongside Social Workers, you will play a key role in supporting unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people from the point they arrive in Cambridgeshire. You’ll recognise the impact of trauma, loss and uncertainty, while helping young people build positive futures. Through holistic assessments, including age assessments where required, you’ll support young people to navigate the immigration process and work towards independence, education, employment and long-term stability.

Based at Scott House in Huntingdon, this is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. We have exciting ambitions for the UASC Team and the wider Leaving Care Service, making this a great time to join us.

What will you be doing?

As a Personal Advisor, you will support young people to develop the skills, confidence and resilience they need to move successfully into adulthood.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Undertaking comprehensive assessments of young people’s strengths, needs and aspirations.
• Developing and reviewing personalised Pathway Plans in partnership with young people and their support networks, including housing, education, employment, emotional wellbeing and, where appropriate, Triple Planning.
• Monitoring progress towards agreed goals and adapting plans to reflect changing circumstances and needs.
• Providing one-to-one support, guidance and advocacy to ensure young people can access the right support at the right time.
• Helping young people access opportunities that promote personal development, social inclusion, friendships, hobbies and community participation.
• Offering practical support with budgeting, benefits, housing applications and other key aspects of independent living.
• Supporting young people to develop essential life skills, including cooking, communication, organisation and time management.
• Delivering group workshops and activities that promote confidence, independence and positive outcomes.
• Supporting young people to understand the immigration system, their rights and entitlements, and the options available to them as immigration decisions are made.
• Maintaining accurate records and documentation and contributing to a duty rota.

About you

We’re looking for confident, adaptable and compassionate individuals who are committed to making a positive difference for young people. You are naturally curious, able to identify needs and opportunities that others may miss, and skilled at building trusting relationships. Most importantly, you are passionate about helping young people achieve their potential.

You will:

• Hold an NVQ Level 3 qualification or equivalent relevant A-Level qualification.
• Have a good understanding of the experiences and challenges faced by unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people with care experience.
• Understand the specific needs of young people as they move towards independence.
• Have strong communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your approach for different audiences.
• Be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, partners and other agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
• Have knowledge of the legislation, guidance and policies relevant to care leavers.
• Be able to work from a variety of locations and travel independently within and outside Cambridgeshire when required.
