This is an interesting and multi-facetted role, commissioning support packages for individual families, which requires you to nurture effective relationships with a range of people and professionals, including parents and a diverse network of providers and community organisations for disabled children and young people. Therefore, we are searching for someone who is creative and able to communicate with people of all levels.

You will be effective and solution focussed, working responsively and collaboratively with colleagues in case-holding, finance and commissioning teams. For example, to identify gaps and develop a more varied pool of resources to appropriately meet needs and providing effective support for families through self-directed support / direct payments.

The successful candidate will have organisation and supervision skills, and proven experience of managing staff, allocating and monitoring assigned work, providing advice and guidance especially with more complex tasks. You will hone your understanding of the care market, and listening to young people’s and parents’ feedback, you will be instrumental in ensuring services are brokered in a timely way, are personalised and needs led, represent value for money, and are appropriately quality assured.

This is a fast-paced role within demanding and challenging market circumstances; therefore, you’ll need to be resilient, able to work under pressure, taking a pro-active approach to workloads and resolving pressure points, enabling the team to manage priorities effectively. You’ll promote team well-being and collaboration, taking pride in maintaining high standards of service delivery, identifying opportunities for learning and promoting good practice.

About you

Essential:

  • Significant demonstrable professional experience within children’s social care and understanding of the range of needs of disabled children, young people and their families.
  • Proven experience of managing staff, allocating and monitoring assigned work
  • Experienced in responding effectively to safeguarding concerns and working in ways which promote children’s safety and well-being.
  • Brokerage or commissioning experience is essential
  • Confident working within agreed financial and contractual frameworks and regulations, as well as relevant health and social care legislation.
  • ICT competent including data and performance analysis
  • Organisation skills
  • Budget management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to travel

Desirable:

  • Social Work qualification
  • NVQ level 4 of above qualification in a related field and evidence of on-going CPD
