Your role and responsibilities

As Green Access Manager, you will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping how people experience, enjoy and access Suffolk’s outstanding green network. You will develop and deliver an integrated access development programme that places sustainable transport, health and wellbeing at its heart, ensuring PRoW (Public Rights of Way) and off‑road walking, wheeling and cycling are fully embedded as priorities across the Local Transport Plan and other key strategies.

You will lead the renewal of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan, drive countywide access improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians, and spearhead the marketing and promotion of Suffolk’s access opportunities, including the ongoing development of the Discover Suffolk website. Managing and motivating project staff, sourcing external funding and working collaboratively with partners will be central to the role, alongside building a national trail partnership to manage and promote the King Charles III England Coast Path. Working closely with the PRoW and Access Operations Manager, you will champion healthy, sustainable travel choices and make a tangible difference to the quality of life for communities across Suffolk.

You will need:

  • a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline/or equivalent experience
  • excellent communication, networking and influencing skills
  • excellent project management skills and experience covering multi-partner projects
  • ability to secure significant levels of external funding
  • sound knowledge of rural affairs or exclusion issues
  • ability to develop and evaluate strategic targets
  • to be highly self-motivated, capable of managing your own workload effectively within a team environment
  • a genuine commitment to improving access to the natural environment thinking of creative opportunities to improve, enable and encourage sustainable access.

The team

This post is in the Green Access team, part of the Rights of Way & Access team. You’ll have the specific role of managing the promotion and enhancement of the Rights of Way and Access network.

The Rights of Way and Access team sits within Suffolk County Council’s Natural and Historic Environment service area. We are a highly motivated team with a genuine passion for Suffolk’s natural environment.

We are a friendly and professional team. Our role is to look after Suffolk’s Public Rights of Way and access network. This includes over 5,700km of public rights of way, open access sites, promoted trails and informal routes.

Suffolk County Council’s ‘Suffolk Green Access Strategy 2020-2030’ covers the team’s main priorities. Our vision is “to get more people using and enjoying Suffolk’s green access network.”

  4. Describe a time you sourced and secured external funding to support a programme of work. How did you identify funding opportunities, develop a strong business case or bid, and manage delivery and reporting requirements?
