SEND Officer

Team: SEND – EHC Team

Job Family: Providing – CBG8

Salary: £31,022 – £33,851 per annum pro rata

Hours: 37 hours per week (3 posts available) and 22.2 hours per week (1 post available)

Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.

Contract Type: Hybrid – Permanent

About the Role

At Central Bedfordshire Council we want to make a genuine difference for children and families, which is why we are investing in our SEND service.

We currently have vacancies for SEND Officers who will work closely with our Senior SEND Officers to ensure oversight, effective management of case loads, annual reviews and amendments. We are currently recruiting to 3x full-time (37 hour) and 1x part-time (22.2 hour) positions within the service.

Main duties of our SEND Officers include:

  • Management of the monitoring and review of existing EHCPS; including amending and issuing EHCPs following a review and attending review meetings in complex cases.
  • Oversight of the phase transfer process for pupils commencing the next stage of education.
  • Ensuring accurate data and record keeping.
  • Providing advice to schools, parents and professionals regarding statutory processes.
  • Providing training regarding statutory processes for professionals and parents.
  • Consulting with schools and supporting school admissions for pupils with an EHCP.
  • Attending meetings and Local Authority Panels as required.
  • Representing the SEND team as part of the wider Children’s Services Team.

As a SEND Officer you will have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with colleagues, families and professionals. You will be a champion of inclusion, a problem solver and be able to make fair informed decisions from evidence based assessments. It is essential that you have excellent organisational skills, an eye for the detail, and ability to prioritise work to meet legal timelines. Ideally, you will have worked as a SEND officer previously and have knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice 2015 and the Children & Families Act 2014.
