All about the Role

Are you interested in restorative justice and helping people affected by crime have their voice heard?

Can you work confidently with victims, children, families and professionals?

As a Restorative Justice Officer, you will play an important role within Peterborough Youth Justice Service, supporting victims to be heard, informed and involved, while helping children understand the impact of their behaviour and take steps to repair harm.

You will:

  • Contact victims, listen to their experiences and identify their needs and wishes.
  • Explain restorative justice options and support informed choices.
  • Assess suitability and support restorative interventions, including indirect communication, letters, mediation and restorative meetings.
  • Work with children to explore the impact of their behaviour and opportunities to repair harm.
  • Identify safeguarding concerns and respond appropriately.
  • Work closely with Youth Justice colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Maintain clear, accurate and confidential records.
  • Take part in supervision, reflective practice and professional development.

Can you balance different perspectives, ask the right questions and support accountability while keeping the victim’s needs central?

If so, this could be the role for you.

This is a hybrid role and will involve a mix of working in the office, form home and the local community.

Please note the salary advertised is the FTE and the salary for this role will be pro rata

Interviews will be held on 12th and 13th November

All about our Team

Would you like to work in a service where restorative justice is an important part of youth justice practice?

You will join Peterborough Youth Justice Service, working alongside Youth Justice practitioners and partner agencies.

You will be supported through supervision, reflective practice, training and professional development, while contributing your own ideas, experience and professional judgement.

As part of the team, you will:

  • Contribute to safe and effective restorative interventions.
  • Ensure victims’ views inform our work.
  • Build effective relationships with colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Share information appropriately and contribute to safeguarding.
  • Work within a service committed to equality, diversity, inclusion and professional standards.

We value good communication, professional challenge, sound judgement and strong working relationships.

All about You

Are you a confident communicator who knows when to listen and when to ask challenging questions?

Can you remain calm, objective and professional when situations are difficult?

We are looking for someone who:

  • Communicates clearly and listens effectively.
  • Can build trust while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Can work with people who may be distressed, angry or uncertain.
  • Is impartial, professional and non-judgemental.
  • Can complete thorough assessments with victims and children.
  • Understands safeguarding, confidentiality and risk.
  • Uses professional curiosity and sound judgement.
  • Records information clearly and accurately.
  • Works effectively with colleagues and partner agencies.
  • Values equality, diversity and inclusive practice.

Experience of working with victims of crime, children and young people, vulnerable people, restorative justice, mediation, advocacy or multi-agency services would be valuable.

Can you recognise risk and strengths, have difficult conversations and support both accountability and positive change?

Most importantly, we are looking for someone with a genuine commitment to working with victims and children and using restorative approaches to address and repair harm.

Our Commitments
We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer, dedicated to fostering diversity, advancing equity, and building an inclusive workplace for everyone. We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and particularly encourage those from underrepresented groups, including disabled people, care leavers, and individuals from minority ethnic communities. Your unique perspectives and experiences are encouraged and valued and will play a vital role in our success.

We are committed to making our recruitment process as accessible as possible. If you are a person who has or considers yourself to have a disability and you require reasonable adjustments to the application or interview process, please contact pccrecruitment@peterborough.gov.uk.
